Turmeric auction at Chithode regulated market from April 14

Published - April 09, 2025 07:19 pm IST - ERODE

Turmeric auctions will be conducted at the Chithode Regulated Market every Monday from April 14.

A press release from the district Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara said that the electronic National Agriculture Market (eNAM), a national-level unified market portal, was launched in the district in 2016 to ensure better prices for farmers’ agricultural produce and increase their income. Under this scheme, regulated auction centres are integrated through digital trading, enabling farmers to showcase their certified products in the national market. As a result, traders from within the State and across the country can participate in large numbers, providing farmers with the opportunity to secure better prices for their produce.

Furthermore, digital auctions ensure more transparent price discovery, and the produce is sold based on quality standards. This guarantees full protection and fair settlement for farmers without any confusion in payment, the release added.

As a follow-up, the Erode Market Committee held a consultation meeting with farmers and traders on April 4 regarding the launch of turmeric auctions at the Chithode Regulated Market. Based on the outcome of the meeting, it was decided to hold auctions every Monday at 3 p.m. through the eNAM platform.

Farmers should clean and grade the turmeric fingers, remove mud, dust, and other foreign materials, and bring the produce to the market. The turmeric should be arranged in lot-wise groupings, allowing traders to inspect and bid accordingly. This system is expected to help farmers secure fair and competitive prices.

Therefore, farmers in the district are advised to bring their turmeric bags to the Chithode Regulated Market, located at Nalliyampalayam, the release said.
