Araria man get 20-yr RI in rape case

Araria: A local court on Wednesday awarded 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to one Pramod Kumar Mandal, a resident of Dumaria village under Palasi police station area in Araria district, after finding him guilty of raping a minor girl. Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) judge Ajay Kumar also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000.
According to the special public prosecutor, Shyamlal Yadav, the judge directed the district legal service authority, Araria, to pay the victim a sum of Rs 5 lakh from the victim compensation fund.
Convict Mandal raped the 14-year-old girl multiple times on the pretext of marrying her during Sept to Dec, 2021. On getting pregnant, the accused refused to marry with the rape survivor. He father lodged an FIR in this connection in Araria Mahila Thana on January 14, 2022.
