Panaji: Amid opposition to setting up World Peace University at Tivim, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured the residents of Tivim that they would get 100% of the non-teaching jobs at the university.
The state cabinet approved declaring 2 lakh sqm at Tivim as an investment promotion area (IPA) for the establishment of a private university by World Peace University. The university will offer courses in engineering, marine engineering, medical sciences, management studies, arts, journalism, and public policy, among others.
The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board received an online application from World Peace University, Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research, and MIT Group of Institutions for setting up a private university to offer a wide range of courses.
The board, at its 36th meeting held on July 11 last year, granted in-principle approval to the project and recommended declaring the 2 lakh sqm of land as an IPA.
Sawant further said that the university will develop the area, which will help Tivim people to start new businesses like restaurants, lodging and boarding, and getting into the taxi business, among other ventures.
“It will help youth to get employment, and it will develop the entire area,” Sawant said.
Sawant said that govt has a vision to bring the work-from-home concept to all the remote villages in the state, and education will help youth in Tivim to take advantage of such concepts.
The chief minister said that govt is planning for the future and such institutes should come to the state.
“We have to have an education hub. We are not getting chemical industries or labour-orientated industries. We want white-collar jobs, and to have such jobs, we have to create infrastructure, and for that, development should take place,” Sawant said.
Sawant said that some people want to criticise govt as they cannot see the development this govt is bringing. “People have started dividing on caste and religious grounds. If we don’t create jobs, then we cannot secure the future of our youth. We don’t want our youth to get into divisive politics,” Sawant said.
The chief minister said that Tivim constituency is connected to Mopa airport, and after Pernem, Tivim would be developed.
