The Hosdurg police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against a nursing school warden in connection with the death of a 21-year-old nursing student three months after an alleged suicide attempt in her hostel room.

The accused, Omana, a native of Chittarikal and hostel warden, had earlier been booked only on charge of using obscene language. However, following a detailed investigation, the charge of abetment to suicide was added, and a report was submitted to the Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.

The student, a resident of Panathur, Rajapuram, allegedly attempted suicide in her hostel room on December 7, and she was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she died after three months of treatment.

The incident had sparked protests with fellow students staging a sit-in in front of the nursing college. The agitation was later taken over by youth organisations.
