Yesterday (i.e. Friday, 24th Jan), when I started for office in the morning, the car didn't self-start. After giving the ignition key, the lights on the dash flickered and then suddenly the dash blanked out. The car could not start even after 3-4 attempts. I knew what was coming, the battery was drained out completely and perhaps completely dead. Came out of the car and went to office on my bike. The car was in perfect running condition until Wednesday. Thursday, I worked from home & on Friday this happened.
When I checked my previous battery invoice it showed me a date of June-2019, which meant the car batter was 5 years and 7 months old, pretty beyond its useful life. After reaching home from office, I made several attempts to reach out to Exide Batmobile, but all in vain. Looks like after Covid-19 this Batmobile service has deteriorated to a great extent. Finally, I got the number of local Exide dealer, called him today morning. Within an hour he sent his technician with a spare battery and jump start cables and with that I could start my car in the first crank. While the engine was ON, I immediately rushed to the Exide Dealer (Argo Enterprises, Thermax Chowk) and got the battery replaced. The price for the new battery after GST and factoring the old battery discount was Rs 6300/- Attached herewith is the invoice. I went for Battery Type EY700F, with a 4 year Warranty: 24F+24P months. First 24 months is free battery replacement and then in the next 24 months it is paid replacement on pro-rata basis. The technician there advised me to get the battery checked every 6 months, so that the health of the battery can be tested & corrective action taken. This check-up is free of charge. The car odo is at 74847km. The second battery was put in at 44,000 km. This means the second battery lasted for 30,847 kms (5 years 7 months)
