Man sells farmer’s SUV for Rs1.4L without consent
Pune: The Daund police are on the lookout for a man from Raigad district who allegedly sold off a 45-year-old farmer's SUV without his permission. Police said the Raigad man has used this method to fool multiple people and there are several complaints against him.
The suspect approached the farmer through an acquaintance from Daund in Jan. He promised to get the car attached to a company's fleet and said he would pay the farmer Rs 40,000 every month. "The farmer did not suspect anything as his acquaintance also assured him of a fixed income," an officer from the Daund police said.
The farmer and the Raigad man made an agreement, which said the farmer would receive his money between the first and fifth of every month. "The man transferred Rs 25,000 in Jan. He kept the remaining Rs 15,000 as payment for vehicle insurance," he said.
When the farmer contacted the man for payment on Feb 5, the latter started avoiding his calls and eventually stopped responding. The farmer then tracked his SUV with the help of GPS and found it in Parner taluka in Ahilyanagar district.
"The person who had the vehicle told the farmer that his brother bought it from a man from Raigad for Rs 1.4 lakh. He told the farmer to pay him that amount and take the vehicle back," the officer added.
The farmer then approached police and filed a complaint.
