Margao:Gomant Vidya Niketan (GVN), one of Goa’s oldest socio-cultural institutions, marked its 113th anniversary on Sunday with a special ceremony recognising four distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions in various fields.The event showcased GVN's continued commitment to promoting excellence and community service across the state. The institution was a cornerstone of Goan cultural heritage since its establishment in 1912.
This year’s ceremony honoured achievers across four distinct categories of excellence. The Keshav Anant Naik Smruti Samaj Sevak Puraskar for social service was presented to Sandeep Kamat Azrenkar, who dedicated three decades to afforestation efforts throughout Goa, making significant contributions to the state's environmental conservation.
Sethu - Child Development & Family Guidance received the Kashinath Damodar Naik Smruti Samajik Krutadnyata Puraskar, recognising their institutional excellence in supporting children's mental and physical development while providing guidance to parents.
The Pirubai Dalal Smruti Swayamsiddha Puraskar, which celebrates women entrepreneurs, was awarded to Sapna Sardessai, for her contributions to restaurant, publishing and advertising sectors.
Renowned poet D B Dhamanskar was honoured with the Kavivarya Damodar Achyut Kare Smruti Gomantadevi Puraskar for his significant contributions to Marathi poetry.
“As one of the state’s oldest institutions, Gomant Vidya Niketan continues to uphold its tradition of celebrating individuals whose work enriches Goan society and culture,” said Salil Kare, the president of GVN.
