Ghaziabad: Residents of Nyay Khand 1 in Indirapuram complained about sewage overflow, garbage dumping and encroachment on the roads by motor repair shops and taxis for over one year. Despite complaints to GMC, residents said there is a lack of routine cleaning in the area. They said the situation worsens during monsoon.
According to Ritika Gaur, a resident of Supertech Icon, some of the civic problems faced by residents of the area include sewage overflow on the main road and encroachment by scrap dealers and automobile workshops. Three to four weekly markets are held within a radius of 1 km of the area.
Besides Supertech Icon, the neighbourhood has three other residential societies - Patrakar Vihar, V3S Indralok and Gaur Green Vista. "Despite being a prime location, property values are depreciating here," said an anguished Gaur.
Ashish Kumar, another resident of the area, said, "Last month, we made several complaints to the corporation, which led to some cosmetic work being done. But in the last few days, the sewer water has been overflowing everywhere again, even flooding the main gate of our society. It is difficult for children to board their school buses. Younger children are carried by parents while older ones board their buses by stepping on bricks placed amidst the sewer water," said Kumar.
Jyotsna Sharma, another resident of Supertech Icon, spoke about encroachment. She said the main road is completely occupied by vendors. Another resident, Kamaljit Takkiar, said people are dumping garbage around dividers, roads are not being cleaned, while Nagar Nigam is not taking any remedial steps. A response from GMC is awaited on the matter.
