Ahmedabad: The deputy municipal commissioner of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday issued notices to three officials of Vejalpur ward — assistant TDO Kantilal Dafda, ward inspector Rajesh Jivani, and Vejalpur ward sub-inspector Nikunjkumar Parmar. They were accused of dereliction of duty.
These officials were directed to submit explanations within seven days as to why disciplinary proceedings should not be initiated against them in the wake of the fire incident at Gyanda Society in Vejalpur that claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman and her three-year-old son. Failure to respond would result in immediate disciplinary action.
The notice stated that these officers received information about the unauthorised warehouse in the Gyanda Society on March 7, 2024, but remained inactive, resulting in the fire on April 6. The AMC officials failed to address the unlawful conversion of the residential property into storage space, a civic body official said.
