Woman held for drugging pal, stealing 5.4L gold
Pune: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police arrested a housewife (25) from Ambegaon Pathar for stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 5.46 lakhs from her friend's house after putting sedatives in her coffee on March 6.
The arrested woman mortgaged the gold ornaments with a city jewellery store, and police on Friday recovered them after arresting her. According to the police, both women are married and live nearby. The arrested woman is also appearing for the bank examinations.
Senior inspector Sawlaram Salgaonkar of Bharati Vidyapeeth said, "The arrested woman needed some money to meet her personal expenses. She visited her friend's house on March 3. Her friend made coffee for her. After diverting her friend's attention, the arrested woman spiked her coffee. She then stole gold ornaments from the victim's bedroom and left her flat."
"After the complaint was registered, the housewife fled from Pune. She spent a month running in various parts of the state. Our team received a tip-off about her presence in Pune station area. Our team arrested her from there. During the questioning, the woman revealed how she stole the ornaments and then mortgaged the jewellery," he said.
Police have recovered the mortgaged jewellery from the shop.
