The “Sthree Chetana” campaign was launched in H.D. Kote on Monday to encourage more women to be part of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

The campaign has been launched in all the gram panchayats across the H.D. Kote taluk to ensure 60% participation of women in the national programme.

The State government has introduced “Sthree Chetana” to make the scheme more women-friendly. The initiative aims to raise women’s participation in the MGNREGA from the current 50% to 60% in the entire Mysuru district. The core objective of “Sthree Chetana” is to empower women economically and socially through guaranteed employment opportunities.

Awareness campaigns have commenced in the rural areas to educate women about the facilities and benefits provided under the MGNREGA. The three-month campaign aims to boost women’s engagement in rural employment, contributing to their financial independence and overall community development.

Dharanesh S.P., executive officer, H.D. Kote taluk panchayat launched the campaign. The daily wage rate for workers under the MGNREGA has been revised from ₹349 to ₹370 a person with effect from April 1, he said.
