EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Outrage sparks after a viral video gets published on social media. It shows what appears to be two bouncers at Chaser’s Bar and Grill beating up a man over the weekend.

Police say two arrests have been made. The victim’s father meanwhile is left “emotional” and “stressed” after what happened.

“You’re not a pouncer. You’re a bouncer. There’s a difference,” says the victim’s father, Steve Hendrix.

The video circulating shows what looks like two Chaser’s bouncers beating, kicking and dragging Shane Hendrix from the bar. According to Steve Hendrix, his son Shane lost teeth and has facial fractures.

Evansville Police says the incident stemmed from an unpaid tab and — after Hendrix allegedly made crude comments to a bartender and advanced toward her — the bouncers stepped in.

Evansville Police Chief Phil Smith released a statement saying the bar’s owner has been cooperative.

When I asked for Chaser’s to share its side of the story, the bar declined.

What is clear is the response from the Hendrix family and friends. They demonstrated outside the bar on W. Franklin Street demanding for answers and justice and calling for an end to violence.

Some like Shane’s cousin — Derek Robb — are even urging the people of Evansville to not give its business to Chaser’s.

“They had no reason to hit him while he was on the ground and continue to hit him in the face,” Robb says.

“There’s no reason for this. If you are a bouncer, you’re supposed to escort the person out of the building, not beat the s— — sorry — beat them up and other bouncers watch. You’re supposed to escort them out of the building,” Steve Hendrix says.

Police say 29-year-old Sean Shell and 41-year-old Johnathan Turner have been charged with felony battery.

Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry released a statement as well saying she was deeply disturbed by the video.
