Minister for Local Self-Government M.B. Rajesh said here on Monday (April 7) that Vrithi, a national conclave to discuss the achievements of Kerala in waste management and plan future projects, will be organised by the Local Self-Government department at Kanakakunnu Palace in Thiruvananthapuram from April 9 to April 13. Through the conclave, the government aims at showcasing the achievements of Kerala, the models developed, and successfully deployed technologies, besides celebrating individuals and institutions that worked towards making the State clean. Apprehensions and new concepts will also be discussed at the conclave.
The Chief Minister will inaugurate the conclave at 5 p.m. on Wednesday (April 9). Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will inaugurate the valedictory function at 5 p.m. on April 12.
Experts to attend
Interactions with those opposed to waste management plants and representatives of political parties and training for Haritha Karma Sena will also be part of the conclave. Around 200 experts from across seven sectors will participate in around 60 sessions. Sessions will be held on solid waste treatment, liquid waste treatment, circular economy, policies and laws, media, communication and awareness.
Mr. Rajesh said that 19,093 out of the 19,489 panchayat wards and municipal divisions and 1,027 out of the 1,0345 local bodies have been declared ‘waste-free’. This includes 939 panchayats, 83 municipalities, and five Corporations. Local bodies, which have achieved 80% progress in each of the 13 benchmarks set by the government, are found eligible to be declared ‘waste-free’.
