Shimla: Chief minister
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat to review the proposed development of a new, grand complex in the Sabzi Mandi area of Shimla.
The upcoming complex will house the office of the Shimla municipal corporation, along with a shopping complex, hotel, residential flats, shops, parking facilities, and various other amenities. The multi-purpose project aims to enhance urban infrastructure and give a fresh boost to tourism in the city, said a govt statement.
The complex, spread over 14 bighas of land, will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will involve the development of around 4 lakh square feet area, while the second phase will cover around 1.40 lakh square feet. The state govt will provide about Rs 200 crore for the construction work of the first phase.
The CM directed officers concerned to initiate the construction work for the first phase at the earliest. He added that the employees' colony in the area will also be redeveloped as part of the project. Emphasising the aesthetic and functional value of the complex, he said the initiative will significantly enhance the urban landscape of Shimla.
The CM also instructed the Shimla MC to engage in dialogue with local residents to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
