Lucknow: In Sultanpur district, a man killed his maternal cousin with axe following a heated argument. The incident occurred in Dharmadaspur village under the jurisdiction of Kurebhar police station.
The accused, identified as Rajnu, son of Jaysu, attacked his cousin Gulfam, son of the late Bhokan, with axe in what police suspect to be a fallout of a longstanding
family feud. The two reportedly engaged in a verbal altercation earlier in the day before Rajnu launched the sudden and fatal assault.
As per eyewitnesses, Gulfam collapsed on the spot after sustaining multiple blows and died within minutes. The sound of screams drew nearby villagers, who rushed to the scene, overpowered the accused, tied him up and handed him over to the police, who arrived promptly, conducted a preliminary investigation and collected forensic evidence from the scene. The body was sent for postmortem.
According to police, the accused has a lengthy criminal record and was released from prison just a year ago. His return to the village already raised concerns among locals. Tension gripped the area following the murder, prompting the deployment of additional police forces to maintain law and order.
Gulfam is survived by his wife, Ruby and their one-year-old child. The family is devastated, and the village remains on edge as authorities continue their investigation into the incident. SHO, Kurebhar, Praveen Yadav, said they were questioning the accused to know what prompted him to take the brutal step.
