Shivamogga: Following a period of intense heat, Malnad region of Shivamogga experienced heavy rain on Saturday night and Sunday evening.
The precipitation spread across numerous areas, including Shivamogga city, Bhandya Kukke, Thirthahalli, Bejjavalli, Salgadi, Thirthamattur, Honnethalu, Megaravalli, Hosahalli, Mulubagilu, Sonale, Melinabesige, Hosur Sampekatte areas, Soraba, Sagar, and Shikaripura taluks.
On Sunday, Shivamogga and Bhadravati taluks recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius, with forecasts indicating moderate rain. Temperature levels also decreased in Hosanagar, Sagar, Soraba, and Shikaripura taluks.
Stored arecanut damaged
On Sunday, Thirthahalli MLA Araga Jnanendra visited Rajat Hegde's residence in Megaravalli village to assess the damage to arecanut stock caused by lightning. The MLA reported that 93 bags of dried arecanut stored in gunny sacks were partially damaged on Saturday evening. No further damages were reported in the district.
Forecast of heavy rain
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain for Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar in the coming days. CS Patil, scientist and director of IMD Bengaluru, stated that cloudy conditions would persist until April 9, with potentially intense rain expected in various parts of Malnad districts.
