Excise intensifies raids in Pathanamthitta

The Excise department in Pathanamthitta carried out 813 raids in the district in March, resulting in the registration of 75 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This is the highest number of narcotics-related cases the department registered in a month.

In addition to the NDPS cases, the department also registered over 150 Abkari cases and seized nearly 945 litres of undistilled spirit.

The raids also led to significant hauls of liquor including 20.9 litres of arrack, 102.05 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor, which were smuggled from other States. The operation has also led to the seizure of 1.052 kg of ganja, one ganja plant, and 15 nitrazepam pills. The department has also registered 323 cases related to the sale of illegal tobacco products.

Officials said regular raids and inspections at different locations including labour camps of migrant workers.
