Signboards installed during RR summit begin to fray in 6 mths
Jaipur: Overhead gantry signboards installed on JLN Marg and Tonk Road as part of the Rising Rajasthan initiative are showing signs of damage within six months of installation, raising questions about the quality of materials used despite the project costing Rs 1.5 crore.
The project's tender outlined strict specifications, requiring the use of high-quality materials, including type-4 retro-reflective plates made of 2mm thick aluminium sheets. These sheets were to be coated with high-intensity blue or green retro-reflective sheeting, with text and logos in white reflective sheets. The signboards were also to be securely mounted on steel frames, adhering to engineering standards.
However, the current state of the signboards suggests that substandard materials may have been used. Several boards are bending or coming loose, presenting not only an aesthetic issue but also a potential safety hazard for both pedestrians and commuters. "The condition of the signboards is disappointing, and they could pose a risk," said a local resident.
So far, neither the municipal corporation nor the departments concerned have taken responsibility. Authorities are yet to comment on the cause of the damage or provide any accountability for the subpar construction.
