Construction worker dies as steel structure falls on him in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A construction worker was killed and a sub-contractor injured after a steel structure fell on them at the site of an under-construction flyover on Mettupalayam Road in the city on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as R Chinnapalani, 45, of Ramanathapuram district. The injured has been identified as M Julius V Kingston, 42, of Kanyakumari district.
Police said the two were standing near a pillar when the steel structure fell on them, trapping them underneath it. Other workers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue Julius Kingston, who was admitted to a private hospital. However, Chinnapalani succumbed to head injuries on the spot.
The Saibaba Colony police sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem. Further probe is on.
