Shimla: Urban planning and technical education minister Rajesh Dharmani on Saturday inaugurated the five-day state-level summer festival themed ‘Drug Eradication' in Ghumarwin of Bilaspur district.
This time, the fair was started by three freedom fighters of the district – Sahaj Ram Sharma, Shankar Das Verma, and Bhag Singh – under a special initiative. The summer festival will be organised from April 5 to 9, featuring cultural presentations, sports competitions, and public awareness programmes. The objective of this event is to provide a platform for local talent and spread awareness on social issues.
In his address, Dharmani said that this fair in Ghumarwin has been organised for about 40 years, and its importance has continuously increased over time. Due to chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's efforts, this fair has received state-level status. The minister informed that the beautification work of the fair site and its surrounding area is ongoing, with both sides of Seer Khad being beautified. In the future, the construction of a lake is proposed at the spot, over which vehicles will be able to pass, ensuring better road facilities to the fair site. He added that approval of about Rs 1.5 crore was received for this project.
The cabinet minister said that an exit road is being constructed from the bus stand to improve the traffic system in the Ghumarwin area. Additionally, an amount of Rs 20 lakh was approved for the construction of a road from the bridge to the fairground. Dharmani said that soon the state govt will establish a "Digital University of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Skill and Vocational Studies" in the Ghumarwin area. This will be the first digital university of the state, which will empower the youth with modern technology. The process of land selection for the establishment of this university will be completed soon, he added.
An exhibition of various govt schemes will also be organised during the fair so that the general public can get detailed information about these schemes. Special sports competitions will also be organised for school children to promote team spirit, discipline, and interest in sports among them. MSID:: 120012704 413 |
