Patna: A protest broke out in Vaishali district on Sunday after the district administration officials revoked permission to play loud music during a Ram Navami procession. To protest the action, people blocked the traffic on Hajipur-Mahnar road.
According to police, members of the Hindu Ekta Bal in Katra Mohalla arranged for a DJ (disc jockey) for the Ram Navami procession. However, the police from Bidupur station arrived and seized the music equipment. Upset by this, the activists began a protest by burning tyres on the Hajipur-Mahnar road. The demonstration caused traffic congestion on both sides of the road, leaving commuters waiting in summer heat.
Upon receiving information about the traffic jam, the police from Ganga Bridge station arrived at the spot and controlled the situation after pacifying the protesters. Ganga Bridge, station house officer, Abhishek Tripathi, said: "The district administration has banned playing loud music during the Ram Navami procession. The police had to take action according to the direction given by the senior officials. Nonetheless, people, angered by the action, blocked the road in protest. The situation is under control now."
