Pune: All schools and anganwadi centres in Maharashtra will be geo-tagged with photographs. This initiative will be carried out by the Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC), with an approved expenditure of ₹1.04 crore.

The School Education Department has issued a government resolution for the same. Information about all schools in the state is already available on the Central Government’s ‘UDISE Plus’ portal, which includes data on schools, student and teacher numbers, physical and computer facilities available in schools.

This data is used at the government level to design and implement policies and programs. However, the department currently lacks location-based data such as village coordinates, population density, proximity to roads and highways, distance between schools, and nearby facilities provided by other government departments. To address this gap, a contract has been signed with MRSAC.

As per the plan, MRSAC will integrate information from various departments along with the UDISE Plus data to create a unified dashboard. This consolidated data will aid the School Education Department in planning and implementing various schemes.

The geo-tagging and mapping of all schools and anganwadi centres in the state—along with their latitude and longitude—will be done via a mobile application. This will include data from all departments operating schools and anganwadis. The project has been allocated a budget of ₹1.04 crore.
