A recent survey by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Sports Department has revealed that 10 of the city’s 35 municipal swimming pools are currently closed. The closures come at a time when summer demand is peaking, causing inconvenience to residents.

The PMC operates these pools at affordable rates, making them popular during hot months. While 25 pools are functional, the remaining 10 are shut due to reasons such as pending repairs, legal disputes, and incomplete contractual processes.

Officials have now issued urgent instructions to speed up repair work and reopen the pools. The delay has also led to loss of revenue for the civic body.

Some of the closed pools include:

The NV Gadgil Swimming Pool in Shanivar Peth has completed repairs but remains shut due to administrative delays. The Narayan Tukaram Kawade Patil Swimming Pool in Ghorpadi is also closed, waiting for contract finalization after the tender process.

Other pools like the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Sports Complex in Sahakarnagar and the Swami Vivekananda Swimming Pool in Bavdhan are awaiting tender approvals and valuations.

The Shivdarshan Swimming Pool is shut due to legal issues and maintenance work.

According to officials, five of the 10 closed pools require only minor fixes and contract clearances. These are expected to reopen by month-end. However, the other five may remain shut longer due to technical and legal hurdles.
