Scams in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) happen because of lack of awareness among parents, Manickavel Arumugam, medical education counsellor and project management consultant, has said.
Speaking at The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling Fair 2025, he said the admission process for medical seats was straightforward and transparent. “NEET is competitive, not tough. Stop worrying about the exam. It just requires practice,” he added.
Addressing students and parents at a session on Challenges in Medical Admission Process, Mr. Manickavel said there were 1.18 lakh medical seats available in the country, and last year, a total of 13 lakh students had cleared NEET. “The challenge is in getting into a good medical college,” he said.
Taking the audience through the process of medical counselling, he touched upon the various areas that are to be tackled during the application process. Manickavel also listed the various documents required to apply for the State and Central medical counselling.
Replying to a query on training for the process, he said there was no need to attend any training. “The application process is very simple and easy. As long as you know how to use the internet, how to fill out a form, you will be able to get through the process. When it comes to the choice of college, if you haven’t already started the research, you should start now,” he said.
