Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru on Saturday said the Integrated Bus Terminus at Panjapur on Tiruchi-Madurai Highway, which was nearing completion, would be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on May 9.
Speaking to reporters here after reviewing the progress of work at the terminus, he said the Chief Minister would open the bus terminus and truck terminal after laying the foundation for the new integrated wholesale vegetable market at Panjapur. Around 55,000 house pattas and welfare assistance would be distributed during the event.
The IBT, along with a truck terminal and multi-utility facilities centre, is being established at a cost of ₹492.55 crore on about 40 acres of land. It has a total of 401 bus bays comprising 141 for long-distance buses, 84 for short-distance buses, 120 for mofussil buses, and 56 for city buses. The facility can accommodate 216 four-wheelers, 1,935 two-wheelers and 100 autorickshaws.
Additional infrastructure such as cloakroom, ticket counter, guard room, wheelchairs for persons with disabilities, passenger waiting room, feeding room, fire safety system, restrooms for bus crew, security room, police control room, LED screens and display boards to check the bus schedule, drinking water facilities, 12 lifts and escalators, 78 shops, 52 toilets for men, 81 for women, four for persons with disabilities and two for trans genders, 173 urinals and 21 bathrooms are set up at the terminus.
Mr. Nehru inspected the progress of the project and directed the officials to expedite the pending works. He also inspected the site, which was being spruced up for the inauguration.
Collector M. Pradeep Kumar, Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan, Mayor M. Anbazhagan, and Commissioner of Police N. Kamini were present.
