Underground cable explosion shocks Utthan Nagar locals
Nagpur: Residents of Utthan Nagar near Gorewada were shocked on Wednesday night when smoke suddenly started coming out of the ground, which later led to an explosion. The explosion damaged the underground chamber for cables of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), causing major panic among the locals. The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
According to sources, a group of citizens in Utthan Nagar witnessed smoke coming out of the ground and a chamber where the MSEDCL laid underground power cables. Many citizens gathered at the spot to witness the unusual incident. However, the underground chamber suddenly exploded, leaving locals in a state of panic.
In the viral video, people can be heard saying that the underground cable is burning and informing the authorities. Many people, including a child, are seen running following the explosion.
According to an MSEDCL official, it was a Low Tension (LT) underground line that might have caught fire because of heat or overburden. "The line provided electricity to a few houses. There was nothing dangerous. We have now shifted the power line overhead, and the issue is resolved," said the official.
However, the incident has sparked widespread concern among the citizens about underground power lines.
