Restored century-old court building inaugurated at Kanniyakumari District Court campus

Supreme Court Judge Justice R. Mahadevan inaugurated the renovated heritage building at the Kanniyakumari District Court Campus in Nagercoil on Saturday in the presence of Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Justice K. R. Shriram and Law Minister Regupathy.

The event also featured the inauguration of District Munsif Cum Judicial Magistrate court building and judicial officer quarters at Bhoothapandy in Kanniyakumari district.

Speaking at the event, Justice R. Mahadevan said, “I am delighted to inaugurate this building which has stood on this land for over 100 years, etching its own unique history in the pages of time.” He added that the structure has been serving as the symbol of the judicial department, as it stands ready to deliver justice to those in need, whenever required.

He urged all the judges and officials associated with the judiciary to deliver justice without any bias, strictly adhering to the guidelines laid down by the High Court.

Justice K. R. Shriram in his address, emphasised the significance of the restored heritage building, describing it as the testament to the architectural and historical legacy of Nagercoil. He noted that the building has witnessed the evolution of the country’s judicial system over generations and serves as the living link to the past, providing an identity, continuity and repository of legal history.

“Its restoration is a tribute to our commitment to preserving our past while serving the present. The renovation of this historic heritage building serves to remind us on the enduring values that underpin our judicial system fairness, integrity and rule of law,” Mr. Shriram added.

Justice J. Nisha Banu, Judge, Madras High Court, Justice L. Victoria Gowri, Judge, Madras High Court, Justice S.S. Sundar, Judge, Madras High Court, Justice A.D. Jagadish Chandira, Judge, Madras High Court and Portfolio Judge of Kanniyakumari District, Justice P. Vadamalai, Judge, Madras High Court and Portfolio Judge of Kanniyakumari District, Justice B. Karthikeyan, Principal District and Session Judge, Kanniyakumari, District Collector R. Alagumeena and Superintendent of Police R. Stalin were present at the event.
