Pune: Selva Kumar Nadar of Ashtavinayak Investment Firm and his wife Sneha, accused of cheating many software engineers and others of over Rs 300 crore, are in Thailand. The Pune police's economic offences wing have been trying to locate the couple for over two years now.
Deputy commissioner of police (EOW) Vivek Masal said, "We received information from authorities who checked their travel documents. They said that the couple and their son fled to Thailand. We will seek further guidance and help from Interpol to bring them back to India," Masal said.
The couple fled from Pune in Feb 2023 after people began complaining against them to the police. An FIR was registered against them on March 17, 2023 in Bund Garden police station. Earlier this year, a city court issued proclamation orders against Nadar and his wife in the case.
The couple, residents of Kondhwa, left the city a few days before a cheating case was registered against them. The police issued two lookout circular notices against them in 2023. During investigations, police arrested three employees of the firm.
Ashtavinayak Investment Firm operated from an office in a mall in Camp and was hand-in-glove with banks and financial institutions to quickly allocate loans to techies. The firm's officials then took the money from the techies, promising to pay their EMIs, pay them interest and high returns on the investments.
A missing persons' complaint was registered with the Kondhwa police after the firm's owner, his wife, and five-year-old son were reported missing by Nadar's sister-in-law in Feb 2023.
