Vadodara: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday caught a head constable red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 near the Police Lines in Garudeshwar. The accused, Ashwin Vasava, is posted at the Garudeshwar police station in Narmada district.
According to the ACB, the incident stems from an FIR filed under the Prohibition Act against the complainant's son in March. The complainant alleged that his son was taken to the police station and beaten by the cops. Vasava later demanded money in exchange for not registering another FIR.
The complainant further claimed that the police had seized his boat and motorcycle. He said he had already paid Rs 2 lakh to Vasava, documenting the currency notes before handing them over. When Vasava demanded an additional Rs 60,000, the complainant approached the ACB.
The complainant also recorded phone conversations with the accused, which were submitted as evidence. Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and arrested Vasava while he was taking the bribe.
