Balasore: A Class VI student sustained injuries after he was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod and a blade and later had salt rubbed into his wounds by his seniors at a govt-run residential high school in Mayurbhanj district.
The incident took place in the school's hostel on Feb 15, but it came to light after the 11-year-old shared his ordeal with his parents recently. On Wednesday, his family filed a complaint at Khunta police station. The students involved are aged around 14-15.
According to the complaint, the student had recorded a video of some Class IX students consuming alcohol in the hostel. When they came to know of it, the seniors allegedly assaulted him and even threatened to stab him with a knife if he told anyone about the incident.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under various BNS sections.
Diptikanta Jena, the headmaster of the school, said although the incident had taken place on Feb 15, the boy did not report it to school authorities or his hostel mates. He even visited his home and returned to school without informing his parents or teachers about the matter. "It was only after more than one-and-a-half-months that he revealed the incident to his family," Jena said.
Panchanan Mohanty, inspector in-charge of Khunta police station, said, "Police are investigating the matter and legal action will be taken against those found guilty."
