Mysuru: The Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Liquor Merchants' Association on Friday staged a protest near the office of the deputy commissioner, demanding state govt fulfil their demands. The merchants submitted a memorandum to govt through the district administration. They requested a minimum 20% profit margin on retail liquor sales and also asked for a reduction in the additional excise duty. The licence fee should not be increased under any circumstances, as in recent years, the number of licences increased, but liquor sales did not grow significantly. The merchants also urged the authorities to allow the consumption of liquor in CL-2 premises. They demanded that strict laws be enacted to prevent illegal transactions.
