Property registrations across Maharashtra to go digital, eliminating the need for sub-registrar office visits

In a major push towards e-governance, the Maharashtra government will officially launch its ‘One State, One Registration’ initiative statewide from May 1, allowing online property registration without visiting sub-registrar offices. The move follows the successful pilot project conducted in Mumbai and is aimed at streamlining property transactions across the state.

Starting May 1—coinciding with Maharashtra Day—buyers and sellers can complete property registration processes, including stamp duty payments and e-stamp certificate issuance, entirely online. The initiative is expected to improve efficiency, reduce delays, and eliminate the need for physical presence during transactions.

New Era of Digital Property Transactions

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed the rollout, stating, “From May 1, property registrations can be completed from anywhere in Maharashtra. Whether a home is purchased in Nagpur or Pune, registration can be done remotely from Mumbai or any other city using Aadhaar and PAN details.”

To support the transition, the Revenue Department, in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), is upgrading digital infrastructure across all 519 sub-registrar offices. The system will ensure seamless operations and enable real-time document validation and payments.

Launch of Leave and License 2.0

As part of the initiative, a new digital system titled ‘Leave and License 2.0’ will also be introduced, facilitating smooth and transparent online stamp duty payments. The advanced platform is designed to enhance user convenience while increasing transparency in property dealings.

A Step Toward Digital Transformation

This digital registration reform underscores Maharashtra’s broader strategy to become a leader in digital governance. The state aims to set a benchmark in online property registration by offering a secure, paperless, and efficient process.
