Former Punjab cop’s drug probe: ‘Accomplice’ fights with estranged wife in Bathinda court
Bathinda: High drama unfolded in a Bathinda court during the appearance of dismissed constable Amandeep Kaur in a drug case on Friday, when her alleged accomplice Balwinder Singh entered the premises and assaulted his estranged wife Gurmeet Kaur, who accused him of involvement in drug dealings with the sacked cop.
Balwinder Singh has been nominated in the NDPS Act FIR registered against Amandeep Kaur, who was arrested for allegedly carrying 17.71 gram of heroin. Balwinder, despite heightened security, managed to enter the court complex.
Seeing him along with Amandeep Kaur, Gurmeet Kaur confronted him, leading to the alleged assault. A public scuffle ensued, requiring police intervention to separate the two. Balwinder later fled.
Gurmeet Kaur, accompanied by her two children, had previously accused Amandeep Kaur of running a long-term drug operation, amassing substantial wealth through illegal means, and using her position to protect Balwinder. She alleged that Balwinder had been living with Amandeep Kaur since 2022 without divorcing her and demanded the demolition of properties acquired through illicit activities.
Balwinder, on the other hand, alleged Gurmeet Kaur was blackmailing him and receiving support from certain police officials.
Meanwhile, the court extended Amandeep Kaur's police remand for two days.
Amandeep Kaur, known as the "Thar wali constable" for her social media presence featuring vehicles and uniform reels, had a history of controversial transfers during her 14-year service. Police are currently investigating her acquired properties and vehicles, though officials remain tight-lipped.
Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal confirmed Balwinder Singh's involvement in the NDPS Act case and stated that police are actively searching for him after he fled the court complex. They are also investigating his past record and association with Amandeep Kaur. Regarding the altercation, she clarified that it occurred within the court complex, placing responsibility for handling such incidents with court security.
