Rlys mulls increasing trains’ speed limit on 2 key ECR routes
Patna: Aimed at carrying out trials to enhance the speed limit of mail and express trains from the existing 130km/hr to 160km/hr, East Central Railway (ECR) general manager (GM) Chhatrasal Singh on Friday carried out a window-trailing inspection on Danapur-DDU and DDU-Pradhankhunta (Dhanbad division) routes. This inspection, which basically focused on summer track safety, comes as part of a broader initiative by the ECR to modernise its infrastructure and increase operational capacity.
Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary, along with other senior officials, was present during the inspection.
During the inspection, GM Singh closely monitored track conditions, signalling system and other critical infrastructure, aiming to identify potential safety hazards and areas for improvement on the route, which serves as a crucial link for both passenger and freight trains in the region, the Danapur DRM said. "The Danapur-DDU route was successfully tested at 140km/hr for mail and express trains passing through the mainline."
Similarly, after a thorough review of the track's condition on the DDU-Gaya-Pradhankunta Grand Chord (GC) route, railways is considering increasing the speed limit to 160km/hr, said the ECR's chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra.
The CPRO added all possible efforts are underway to achieve necessary upgrades to the infrastructure, including track maintenance, signalling improvements and modernised safety features.
