Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Thursday spearheaded an anti-encroachment rally and instructed the vendors and shopkeepers to remove their encroachments within a week or else necessary action will be taken.
Kanpur Municipal Corporation has orchestrated plans to de-silt the nullahs, drains and clear the footpaths from encroachments to ensure all city waterways are cleaned before monsoon. This initiative would safeguard the city against waterlogging during
monsoon season.
Consequently, KMC resolved to initially clear encroachments before undertaking drain and nullah cleaning. KMC had already issued tenders on March 29 for cleaning 236 major nullahs across the city. The officials confirmed that firms had been finalised for 144 nullahs with work orders in process. KMC would reissue tenders for the remaining 92 nullahs.
DM's appeal: The district magistrate subsequently appealed to all business establishments to arrange suitable cold potable water for pedestrians outside their premises.
