From managing the accounts of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan to building a pharmaceutical empire worth Rs 28,000 crore, Premchand Godha's story is full of ups and downs.

Once a chartered accountant (CA), Godha is today one of the richest individuals in India, with a net worth of approximately Rs 14,123 crore ($1.7 billion), according to Forbes.

Premchand Godha was born into a farmer’s family in Rajasthan. Despite several challenges, he focused on education and became a chartered accountant. In the early days of his career, he was the accountant of the Bachchan family, including Amitabh Bachchan. This role gave him insights into financial management and learning of business strategy.

Turning Point In Career

In 1975 alongwith the Bachchan family, he invested in Ipca Laboratories, a struggling pharmaceutical company that was on the verge of collapse. But where others saw risk, Godha saw an opportunity.

Through his vision and hard work, Godha turned the company into a profit making business. From an annual revenue of Rs 54 lakh, Ipca grew to earn Rs 4,422 crore in revenue today. Its current market valuation is around Rs 28,000 crore.

Under Godha’s leadership, Ipca Laboratories has become a big player in the pharmaceutical world which makes life-saving drugs for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, malaria, and pain management. The company is globally recognised and has a strong presence in both Indian and international markets.

Bachchan Family’s Exit 

In 1999, due to financial setbacks, the Bachchan family sold off their stake in Ipca. But Godha continued with the company. and transformed it into a pharma giant.

From a CA managing others’ wealth to building his own business was a long journey for him.
