Two young girls from Mohamadwadi had a narrow escape yesterday on Undri Marg near Rama Dairy, highlighting growing concerns about road safety in the area. The girls was reportedly walking along the roadside from Corinthians Club side towards Nyati Estate road when a speeding vehicle approached dangerously close. Fortunately, a car parked on the side of the road acted as a shield, saving her from potential harm. The incident has triggered alarm among local residents, who are now urging the police to take immediate and strict action to prevent further mishaps.
This is the second serious incident on Undri Marg within a week. Earlier, a morning walker was fatally struck by a four-wheeler near Nyati Ebony in Undri on the same Undri marg. The individual, an ex defence personnel succumbed to injuries. Police have since taken both the driver and the co-passenger into custody in connection with the incident.
Residents are now calling for better enforcement of traffic regulations, stricter penalties for reckless driving, and enhanced pedestrian safety measures. Many have voiced their concerns about the lack of visible patrolling and absence of speed calming infrastructure on the busy stretch.
The Mohamadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation has reiterated its demand for urgent intervention to ensure that Undri Marg does not become a death trap for locals, especially children and the elderly.
