Sanaa: Amid deadly airstrikes by the US and Israel, Iran has dealt a major blow to Yemen’s Houthi rebels by asking its military commanders to leave the Middle Eastern country. According to reports, Tehran took this step due to fears of US and Israeli attacks. Now, the Houthi rebels have been left all alone in Yemen. Meanwhile, American troops have intensified fierce attacks against the Houthis, with the B-2 nuclear bomber also joining the offensive. An Iranian official has urged the government to withdraw its soldiers to avoid a direct confrontation with the US.
According to several media reports, an Iranian soldier was also killed in the US airstrikes. Iran’s decision appears to mark a significant shift in its regional policy, as it is reducing support to its proxy organizations—Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah—to avoid direct conflict with the United States. An Iranian official stated that the main concern for his country is former US President Donald Trump. Trump is reportedly a central topic of discussion in every meeting held in Iran.
Tensions between the US and Iran are escalating as President Trump has issued repeated warnings to Iran to cease its nuclear activities and support for the Houthis, backing up his warnings with the deployment of two aircraft carriers near Iran and B-2 bombers to Diego Garcia. He has declared that any Houthi attack will be considered an act of aggression by Iran. Iranian sources, meanwhile, suggest that continued US bombing could jeopardize the Houthis’ survival.
An Iranian source claims the Houthi rebels in Yemen are nearing defeat. Increased US airstrikes targeting Houthi positions have resulted in at least six deaths in a recent attack, and a reported 67 fatalities since President Trump took office, according to Houthi figures.
White House press secretary Caroline Levitt reported over 200 attacks on Iranian targets, claiming major weakening of Iran and the death of Houthi leaders. While the US hasn’t publicly identified any casualties, leaked conversations suggest a Houthi missile force leader was a target. The Houthis deny any leadership losses.
