Bhagalpur: The district administration has launched a novel initiative to collect data on farm yields.
The first step in this regard was taken at Sardho village under Sardho panchayat in the Sabour block, where senior district administration officials visited farm fields to conduct a spot verification of the crop harvesting data collection (CHDC) process for Rabi crops, including wheat, on Friday.
District magistrate (DM) Nawal Kishor Choudhary, accompanied by district agriculture officer Prem Shanker, district statistical officer Durgesh Ranjan, assistant statistical officer (Sabour block) Rakesh Kumar, kisan salahkar Sanjiv Kumar Suman, and others, visited the village and symbolically harvested wheat in the agricultural field of a farmer, Uttam Kumar.
As part of the sample CHDC, wheat was harvested within a 550-square-foot area, yielding a total of 21 kg on an experimental basis.
The objective of the CHDC is to collect production rate records (PRR) to help district and state officials assess crop damage in the event of natural calamities such as floods, droughts, hailstorms, accidental fires, and other disasters. This data will enable the govt to provide accurate compensation to farmers for crop losses. Additionally, the initiative aims to assist in agricultural planning to enhance productivity and promote environmentally sustainable farming practices for optimal yields.
The DM said this exercise is designed to gather first hand information about farmers' harvests and crop yields. He added that the collected data will be crucial in compensating farmers for losses caused by natural disasters.
