Will protest implementation of Waqf bill in state: JMM
Ranchi: After protesting against Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, JMM has decided to restrict implementation of the Bill, once it is notified as an Act. The party has decided to confront the Centre at the state level, citing constitutional powers available with the state under the Constitution.
Central general secretary of the party, Supriyo Bhattacharya, said that land and its management is a state subject along with law and order in which the Centre should not legislate. "When ‘land' is in the state list, Centre should not have brought any legislation on Waqf properties that too without consulting the states," he said.
Bhattacharya clarified that the effort to have central control over waqf property to hand it over to the corporates would be met with stern opposition in the state. "Not a single inch of waqf land in Jharkhand would be conceded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's friends," he said, accusing the Centre of already transferring land of public sector undertakings (PSUs) to various corporate houses in their interest.
Accusing the Centre of tampering with the constitutional spirit and its preamble, the JMM said that the idea of secularism and guarantee of religious practices to its citizens is being violated.
