‘Harassed’ for dowry, woman ends life in city
Hyderabad: A 29-year-old woman, A Sowjanya, died by suicide due to alleged harassment from her husband, Rajnikanth, and his family members at KPHB late on Tuesday. She has a three-year-old son, police said.
According to the KPHB police, the couple married in Dec 2020. At the time of the marriage, Sowjanya's family gave some cash and household articles as dowry. However, Rajnikanth, who works for a private company, and his family members were harassing her for additional dowry, and he would often assault her.
On March 31, the couple had an argument over the issue, following which Rajnikanth thrashed Sowjanya severely. Informed by Sowjanya, her elder sister Usha came to her and urged Rajnikanth not to harass her and then left for her home, police said.
On Tuesday evening, Sowjanya was found hanging at their house, following which police registered a dowry death case against Rajnikanth and his family.
