Police arrest accused in cow slaughter case after encounter
Shimla: Paonta Sahib police and Uttarakhand police, in a joint operation, arrested one of the main accused in the cow slaughter case after an encounter near the border of the two states on Wednesday morning.
The accused, Ehsaan (22), a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, was arrested from Timli Dharmawala in the Sahaspur area of Dehradun district. When asked to stop at the police checkpoint, the motorcycle-borne accused tried to flee, forcing the police teams to chase him. When the accused opened fire, the police retaliated, resulting in the accused sustaining a bullet injury to the leg. He was then taken to the nearest hospital in Vikasnagar for treatment.
According to the police, Ehsaan was earlier also involved in cow slaughter cases, and a reward of Rs 15,000 was placed on him by the Clement Town police station in Dehradun. He was also wanted in a similar case in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
The police teams of both states earlier on Tuesday arrested 10 accused allegedly involved in cow slaughter. Various Hindu organisations on Monday carried out a protest by blocking the Dehradun-Paonta-Chandigarh national highway as body parts of over a dozen slaughtered cows were found on the banks of the Yamuna river in Paonta Sahib and also along the Uttarakhand side of the river.
