The newly registered Samsung India Thozhilalar Sangam - CITU on late Wednesday evening issued a 14-day strike notice to the management of the Samsung factory at Sriperumbudur. This comes less than a month after the Sangam workers withdrew the month-long protest on March 7.

The strike notice - jointly signed by E Muthukumar and P Ellan, President and Secretary of the Sangam, respectively - urged the Samsung management to reinstate the 23 suspended workers and withdraw complaints issued against them.

The management should recognise the Sangam, which has the majority of workers on its side. It should also sign the wage-related agreement with the Sangam and should not force workers affiliated with the Sangam to sign any agreement, the notice said

The Sangam claimed that a new association, named the Samsung India Welfare Federation, was created and that the wage agreement was signed with it.

It also urged the management to pay the ex-gratia amount to the workers immediately and to organise a secret ballot to decide which organisation - Sangam or the Federation - has the majority.

If these demands are not met, the Sangam said its workers would be on strike after the 14th day starting Wednesday.
