Cylinder blast: Three women die in Arkalgud

Three women who suffered serious injuries in a gas cylinder blast at Konanur in Arkalgud taluk of Hassan on March 30 died one after the other in the last three days.

Meenakshi Raju, 50, who was under treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru, died on Thursday morning. She is survived by her husband and two daughters. Radhamma, 60, died on Wednesday, and Mangalamma, 50, succumbed to injuries on Tuesday. Radhamma lost her husband a few years ago, and she had no children. Mangalamma is survived by three children. The three victims were the daughters-in-law of Kariyamma.

The incident occurred when they were busy preparing food for the relatives attending the 11th-day ceremony after the death of Kariyamma. The relatives shifted them to a government hospital in Arkalgud. Later, they were moved to a private hospital in Mysuru, but they did not respond to treatment.

Hassan Deputy Commissioner C. Sathyabhama visited the families of the victims on Thursday. “It was an unfortunate incident. The district administration would take necessary steps to get compensation for the victims from the Chief Minister’s relief fund,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
