Jaipur: While municipal officials claim to be making big efforts for cleanliness, the reality in Ward 97 of JMC-H is very different. In Kacchi Basti of Teela No. 1, in Adarsh Nagar Zone, nearly 150 families live amid overflowing sewage from a nearby drain. The lack of drainage also results in waterlogging, leaving the settlement submerged in foul-smelling water daily.
Ward 97 councillor Maya Devi expressed her frustration, "The stagnant sewage water has led to several diseases here. We raised complaints with even the mayor, but no one seems to care. The waterlogging on streets is a minor issue compared to what happens during the monsoon, when we are forced to shift residents out to the nearby Ambedkar Bhavan."
She mentioned that last year, during the monsoon, the district collector and civic officials visited the area and assured of a solution. However, with another rainy season approaching, the problem remains unresolved.
"Municipal officials keep passing the responsibility onto each other instead of taking action," she added.
Despite clear evidence of poor sanitation, Adarsh Nagar Zone's CSI Rajeev dismissed the claims, saying, "It is impossible that sanitation work has not been done. Compared to wards 96 and 98, ward 97 has much better cleanliness."
When confronted by the councillor with photographic proof, he replied, "I have not received any complaints about this issue. If it's true, we will look into it."
Similarly, Adarsh Nagar Zone's deputy commissioner Yugantar Sharma said, "This is the first time I am hearing of such a problem at Teela Number 1. I can assure you that sanitation in the area is well maintained."
Slum resident Seema Meena said, "Living here is unbearable. If we had the means, we would have left long ago. The stench is constant, and only we know how difficult our lives are."
