Mangaluru: In connection with the govt medical college approved for Puttur, MLA Ashok Kumar Rai held discussions with medical education minister Sharanprakash R Patil and health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Rai stated that the medical college was approved in this year's budget for Puttur. Following this, officials from the health department visited and inspected the 40-acre site reserved in Bannur. A team of senior officials conducted a site inspection and submitted a report to the govt.
"I have held discussions with the ministers. During the meeting with the ministers, I requested the immediate release of an initial grant of Rs 300 crore for the construction of the medical college. Initially, a 400-bed hospital is to be constructed. After the hospital's construction, the process for the medical college will begin, and assurance was given regarding the release of the Rs 300 crore for the hospital's construction," Rai said.
There is confidence that the grant will be approved soon, and all matters related to the medical college will progress rapidly at the govt level, he added.
