‘Stop selling police flags to collect funds for police welfare’

A retired police official here on Wednesday suggested the Police Department to stop the system of collecting funds for police welfare by selling police flags. Instead, the police can make use of part of traffic penalty amount for police welfare, he said.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Karnataka Police Flag and Welfare Day programme, which was held jointly by the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada District Police, retired Police Sub-Inspector Harish Padavinangady said every retired police personnel should be covered under group insurance scheme every year. The retired police personnel should be provided with free medical check-up facility, he said.

Like the ex-servicemen, the retired police personnel should also be allowed to wear uniform and take part in national festivals. Retired personnel should do physical exercise for about 30 minutes every day to maintain their fitness, he said.
