Pune: The Kalepadal police have arrested a man accused of a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a pedestrian during a morning walk in Undri.

The accused, Sameer Ganesh Kad (32), a resident of Gangotri Complex, Hole Vasti Chowk, Undri, was nabbed early Wednesday from Darde, Sortapwadi, Taluka Haveli, Pune. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning near Nyati Ebony Society, where Sujit Kumar Singh (49), a resident of Vidyaniketan Society, Katraj Bypass, Undri, was fatally struck.

According to police reports, Singh, a former Army Captain working as a manager in a private security firm, was out for his morning walk around 6:45 am when a grey four-wheeler hit him from behind. CCTV footage captured the collision, confirming the vehicle’s involvement.

At around 7:15 am, authorities were alerted and rushed to the scene, where Singh was found critically injured. Eyewitnesses stated that an ambulance took nearly an hour to arrive. Singh was eventually taken to Sassoon Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Singh is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.

Police have taken Kad into custody and are conducting further investigations.
