Ahmedabad: The civic body on Tuesday announced a substantial increase in expenditure for revenue and development works. In a press release, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) revealed that provisional total expenditure reached Rs 11,681.77 crore for the 2024-25 financial year. This represented a 15% increase compared to the 2023-24 financial year, during which AMC expenditure surpassed Rs 10,000 crore.
The release also stated that there was a provisional expenditure of Rs 5,516.66 crore recorded up to March 31, 21% up from the Rs 4,560.38 crore spent during the preceding financial year. A significant portion of the development expenditure was allocated to essential infrastructure projects, the release said. This includes Rs544.94 crore for water-related projects and Rs1,389.38 crore for drainage, with Rs268.30 crore specifically dedicated to the Kharicut canal development project.
Also, investments in sewage treatment plants (STP) under Gujarat Resilient Cities Project (GRCP) amounted to Rs147.17 crore, including the construction of a 375 MLD plant in Vasna and a 425 MLD plant in Pirana. AMC allocated Rs 182.53 crore for Pirana bio-mining and related vehicles, and Rs111.67 crore for the Vasna STP plant and Rs 22.54 crore for the plant in Pirana.
The Amrut scheme also saw a considerable investment of Rs 849.29 crore in water and drainage initiatives. Road infrastructure also received substantial funding, with Rs1,095.58 crore allocated for roads, including iconic roads and white-topping projects, and Rs246 crore for bridges, the release said.
