BDU’s School of Library and Information Science wins award

School of Library and Information Science (LIS), Bharathidasan University, has been conferred with the Best LIS School Award by TATA Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai and Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS), it was announced on Wednesday.

According to an official release, S. Srinivasa Ragavan, senior professor and founder head, Department of Library and Information Science, received the award on behalf of the varsity at a TISS-IATLIS conference in Mumbai on March 29.

Earlier, Mr. Ragavan was honoured with the SATKAL National Librarian Award conferred by SATKAL Trust, Punjab, during Read India Annual Conclave held at India International Centre, New Delhi on March 12.

The School of Library and Information Science has been functioning as full-fledged teaching and research department since 2007. It has received nearly ₹1 crore of research projects from University Grants Commission and government-aided funding agencies.

The award was given on the basis of currency of curriculum updation, integration of emerging technologies in LIS education, the academic performance of faculty members, research scholars and placements of students in the last five years, said the release.

BDU Vice-Chancellor Committee Member Rajesh Kannan, Registrar (in-charge) R. Kalidasan and Controller of Examinations (in-charge) B. Jeyapragash offered their felicitations.
